Attempts jailbreak by inmates of the Sapele Correctional Center, (Prison) in Sapele local government area, Delta State, was today foiled by a combined team of men of the Nigeria Prison Service, Police and DSS.

Advocate gathered that protesting against the lack of food and water and poor treatment of the inmates by the officials of the Sapele prisons set the facility on fire in attempts to escape from the centre.

The fire brigade van has just driven in and with several security men on the ground, the prisoners have so far refused to calm down.

As at the time of filing this report, the Sapele Correctional Center is still on fire, while security men have surrounded the facility to check possible escape of the inmates in what has been described as a botched coup.
