ASUU Urges Government Action to Address TSU Challenges

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Tarara State University (TSU) has once again called upon the state government to address the array of issues affecting the institution.

During a press conference in Jalingo on February 29, 2024, ASUU-TSU highlighted the lack of a pension scheme and the prolonged delay in salary disbursements as major challenges faced by the university.

ASUU-TSU Chairman Dr. Garba Mbave Joshua emphasized the severe impact of the absence of a pension scheme on the welfare and livelihoods of academic staff, particularly the families of deceased members.

The union also expressed alarm over the prolonged delay in salary disbursements, citing its exacerbating effects on members’ financial well-being.

The union further voiced frustration over the extended delay in the payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) since 2014, underscoring its detrimental effects on staff morale and institutional harmony.

The issue of unpaid promotion arrears has also caused discontent and eroded trust in the institution’s fairness and integrity among its members.

Another pressing concern raised by ASUU-TSU is the lack of a perimeter fence around the university campus, posing significant security risks.

Incidents of attacks on both staff and students have heightened concerns about the safety of the university community.

ASUU-TSU urged the state government to take immediate steps to rectify these issues and ensure the well-being and safety of the university community.

Failure to do so may compel the union to take further action, including potential work stoppages.

The union emphasized the urgency of addressing these issues, highlighting the need for the state government to prioritize the welfare of TSU’s academic staff and the safety of the entire university community.
