APC Gubernatorial Aspirant Withdraws from Edo Race After Tragic Loss

In a recent turn of events, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, has withdrawn from the Edo State governorship race following the death of his son in the United States.

Agbonayinma, who represented Egor/Ikpoba-Okha federal constituency in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019, made the announcement to his party members and supporters in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

The tragic loss of his 23-year-old son, Osazuwa Michael, a music artiste with the stage name Zuwa, has left Agbonayinma and his family devastated.

The young man was shot dead on January 7, in Houston, Texas, USA. In light of this heart-wrenching event, Agbonayinma stated that he did not have the right frame of mind to go into political campaigns and rallies needed for the governorship race in Edo.

Agbonayinma expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received during his campaign, and thanked his family, friends, close allies, leaders of the APC, traditional rulers, religious leaders, opinion leaders, and media influencers for their encouragement.

However, he stated that his family needed time to grieve and heal, and therefore, he was suspending his gubernatorial campaign for now.

The shooting epidemic in the United States has claimed countless lives, with incidents occurring in schools, bars, streets, hospitals, and other public places.

This tragic loss of life underscores the need for stricter gun control measures in the country.

President Joe Biden has called on the American public to support him in mounting pressure on Congress to ban assault weapons in the United States.

As the Edo governorship race moves forward, it remains to be seen how the absence of Agbonayinma will impact the political landscape.

The tragic loss of his son serves as a stark reminder of the importance of unity and support during difficult times.
