APC Chieftain Urges Accountability from State Governors Amid Economic Woes

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mumuni Abayomi Nureini, has called on Nigerians to hold state governors accountable for the current economic hardship being experienced in the country.

In a statement to Vanguard News on February 24, 2024, Nureini emphasized that state governments are responsible for creating an enabling environment for businesses and ensuring the improvement of citizens’ lives.

While acknowledging the economic and security challenges in the country, the former gubernatorial candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Lagos State praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to address these issues.

He urged thought leaders and elder statesmen to inspire the people with courage and hope rather than making statements that could incite unrest.

Nureini also highlighted the improving security situation in Nigeria, citing recent clampdowns on bandit leaders, kidnapping kingpins, and other criminal gangs.

He encouraged security agencies to maintain their offensive against criminals and prevent them from gaining a foothold in communities.

The APC chieftain pointed out that the federal government has taken several steps to tackle economic and security challenges, including increasing the numerical strength of forest rangers, approving state police, and meeting with various stakeholders to arrest the increasing prices of goods and services.

He further emphasized that the people should hold their state governors accountable for what they are doing with the increased monthly FAAC allocation, noting that state governments are closer to the people and their interventions will bring relief to the people in these difficult times.

The call for accountability from state governors and the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration aim to address Nigeria’s economic and security challenges, with the hope of improving the lives of its citizens.
