Aladja Community Urges Delta State Governor to Intervene in Demarcation Dispute
Members of the Aladja community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State have called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene in the ongoing demarcation exercise between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh.
The community claims that the governor's mandate in the exercise has been flouted by the state government's surveyor.
In a protest letter signed by Comrade Okakotu Shell GodFirst, President of the Aladja Community Council; Apst. Lucky Figbele, Oghuvwie-Ode of Aladja Community; and Mr Reuben Doro, Chairman of the Aladja Welfare Movement, the community expressed shock that representatives of Ogbe-Ijoh were allowed to mark the disputed land area from the Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh road.
The letter stated, "They did this by traversing farms, plantations belonging to its people including the entire length of the Major-General R.M. Dumuje's Canal, Aladja Grammar School, Aladja Divisional Police Headquarters by marking same as disputed land."
The community argued that this claim of land would not be helpful in resolving the dispute and would only aggravate the already tense situation.
They also expressed concern that the entire land between the two communities had been marked out as the disputed area, with over 90% on the Aladja side, which they deemed unacceptable.
The Aladja community also alleged that representatives from Ogbe-Ijoh were pressuring the team to implement a minority report signed by two representatives from Ogbe-Ijoh in the Prof. A. Ekoko's panel.
As the community calls for the governor's intervention, the fate of the demarcation exercise remains uncertain, and tensions between the two communities continue to rise.
