The Olotu and Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete Foundation has empowered vigilante groups and community leaders in Ughelli South Local Government Area with conflict resolution skills and security gadgets as part of its 7th anniversary celebrations.

The lecture, themed “Conflict Resolution and Neighbourhood Watch”, held at the Unity Hall, Ughelli South LGA Secretariat, attracted over 100 participants, including vigilante leaders, community heads, and stakeholders.

Ughelli South Council Chairman, Hon. Lucky Avweromre, PhD, represented by the Secretary, Olorogun John Akaruayen Ewenede, lauded the foundation’s initiative and urged participants to put the knowledge gained into practice for lasting peace in the communities.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ughelli South, CSP Olowole Oladipupo, also commended the foundation, stressing that the training would help reduce conflicts and crises in the area.

Delivering a lecture on conflict management, security expert Mr. Sylvester Obose emphasised the need for strong collaboration between communities and law enforcement agents in addressing disputes and security threats.

Speaking on behalf of participants, Chief Henry Abizor expressed gratitude to the Executive Director of the Foundation, SPY ACP Olotu Akpodiete, PhD, for the gesture. In his remarks, Akpodiete thanked the LGA Chairman and the DPO for their support and urged vigilantes to be proactive in handling conflicts while promptly reporting security threats to the police.

As part of the programme, the foundation distributed security communication gadgets to vigilante groups in Ughievwen, Olomu, and Ewu clans, alongside mobile sound systems for community leaders.

The event marked another milestone in the foundation’s sustained efforts to promote peace, unity, and security in Delta State.
