Ajayi’s Injury Recovery Gives Super Eagles More Options for World Cup Qualifiers

Semi Ajayi, the Super Eagles defender, has recovered from his injury and is ready to join the national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Ajayi was doubtful for the two matches after he got injured while playing for his club, West Bromwich Albion, in the Sky Bet Championship two weeks ago. He missed the last four games for his club due to the injury.

However, his club manager, Carlos Corberan, confirmed on Friday that Ajayi has resumed training with the team and could feature in their next game on Saturday.

“Jeremy Sarmiento and Semi Ajayi are two players who, if they complete the training session on Friday, can be part of the matchday squad on Saturday,” Corberan said on the club’s official website.

“They both trained on Thursday with the group, and they came through that fine.

“It’s always really positive to add players back to your squad when you have been missing plenty of them in recent weeks.

“With Semi, we have one more option at centre-back, and he was playing in the first XI at the start of the season.”

This is good news for the Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, who will be happy to have Ajayi in his squad for the crucial World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles will face Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Thursday, November 16.

They will then travel to Rwanda to play Zimbabwe at the Huye Stadium on Monday, November 20.
