AFCON Final: Peseiro Defends Super Eagles’ Tactics in Loss to Ivory Coast

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has defended his team’s tactics in their loss to Ivory Coast in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final. Nigeria lost 2-1 to the hosts, with William Troost-Ekong scoring the opening goal in the first half.

However, Ivory Coast fought back in the second half with two goals to secure the trophy.

After the game, Peseiro was questioned about his decision to maintain the same strategy even after going one goal up.

He explained that when a system is working, it is best not to change it. He admitted that the team conceded goals due to defensive errors and a drop in performance against the Ivorians.

Despite the loss, the Super Eagles put up a strong performance throughout the tournament and can be proud of their efforts. Peseiro’s comments shed light on the team’s strategy and the reasoning behind their tactical decisions during the game.

As the dust settles on the AFCON final, fans and analysts will continue to discuss Nigeria’s performance and the coach’s approach to the match.
