AFCON 2023: Yusuf replaces injured Ndidi

Alhassan Yusuf, the star of Royal Antwerp of Belgium, has been announced as the substitute for Wilfred Ndidi in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Yusuf, who was initially named in the Super Eagles’ 41-man preliminary squad for the tournament, is expected to meet his teammates at their Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, camp on Wednesday.

It’s the first time the midfielder has received a call-up to the Super Eagles.

Ndidi suffered an injury before Leicester City’s 4-1 victory against Huddersfield Town on New Year’s Day.

The 26-year-old has played for Nigeria at two AFCON finals.

Meanwhile, his clubmate, Kelechi Iheanacho, who is recovering from a muscle injury, is expected to join the Super Eagles camp before the beginning of the AFCON.

The Super Eagles have established camp in Abu Dhabi ahead of the competition.
