AFCON 2023: Super Eagles Fall 2-0 to Guinea in Friendly

Nigerian Super Eagles suffered a 2-0 defeat to Guinea in their final friendly match before the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The game took place at the Bani Yas Stadium in Abu Dhabi on January 8, 2024, as both teams prepared for the upcoming tournament.

The Super Eagles, who were expected to put up a strong performance, struggled to find their footing against a determined Guinea side.

The Syli National took the lead in the 14th minute and doubled their advantage in the 64th minute, leaving the Nigerian team stunned.

Despite the loss, the Super Eagles have the opportunity to regroup and refocus before the start of the AFCON tournament.

The team, led by coach Jose Peseiro, will be looking to make a strong showing in the competition and improve upon their performance in the last edition of the tournament.

Nigeria will be facing Equatorial Guinea in their first Group A match on January 14, followed by host nation Ivory Coast four days later. On January 22, they will play Guinea-Bissau in their final group A encounter.

The Super Eagles will be looking to put this friendly defeat behind them and focus on the task ahead as they aim to make a deep run in the 2023 AFCON tournament.
