5G and 6G Technology Pose Greater Cybersecurity Risks, Warns NCC

In a recent Telecoms Industry Risk Management conference in Lagos, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Aminu Maida, warned that fifth-generation (5G) and sixth-generation (6G) technology and other advancements in network technology increase the risk of cyberattacks.

As the world moves towards 5G and 6G technology, the interconnected devices and denser network infrastructure pose new challenges for cybersecurity.

Dr Maida emphasized that the industry must address these emerging threats with innovative solutions to minimize the risk of cyberattacks.

The conference, themed ‘Evolution and Future Risk Management in the Telecoms Industry: Harnessing Emerging Technologies and Trends,’ aimed to address new challenges that come with technological advancements.

In the era of 5G and 6G, the cybersecurity landscape is evolving rapidly, and the NCC is taking proactive steps to ensure that the industry is well-equipped to tackle the potential risks.

As Dr Maida pointed out, “network advancements come with the responsibility of addressing new risks, from cybersecurity threats to ethical considerations.”

The NCC’s warning about the increased risk of cyberattacks with the adoption of 5G and 6G technology highlights the importance of staying vigilant in the face of emerging threats.

The industry must work together to develop and implement robust cybersecurity measures to protect the ever-growing network infrastructure and interconnected devices.
