...Governor Promises More Projects, Assures Fairness Across Delta

The apex socio-cultural body of the Ndokwa people, Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), has passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, endorsing his leadership style and applauding what it described as his inclusive governance, infrastructural achievements, and commitment to equitable development across the state.
The endorsement was delivered on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the NNU, accompanied by elders, political leaders, traditional rulers, and stakeholders of the Ndokwa Nation, to Government House, Asaba.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, President-General of the NNU, Chief Amaechi Asugwuni, said the visit was aimed at expressing gratitude to the governor for the numerous development projects executed in Ndokwa land and other parts of Delta State.
According to him, Governor Oborevwori's administration has demonstrated fairness, accessibility, and a genuine commitment to the welfare of all ethnic nationalities in the state.
"As a people, we have continued to enjoy the Governor's goodwill, respect and commitment to equitable development. His administration has provided ample evidence of purposeful governance," Asugwuni stated.
The Ndokwa leader particularly commended the completion and handover of Ndokwa House, describing it as a landmark achievement that would serve as a rallying point for consultation, planning, and decision-making for generations of Ndokwa people.
He also praised the completion of the Asaba-Kwale-Ughelli Road, noting that the project had improved connectivity, boosted economic activities, and provided a strategic alternative route linking Ndokwa communities with other parts of the state.
Asugwuni further lauded the governor's open-door policy, saying the administration had remained accessible and responsive to the concerns of the people.
While acknowledging the government's efforts, the NNU President-General raised concerns over persistent electricity challenges in the area and appealed for the implementation of the proposed Okpai Step-Down Facility to improve power supply across Ndokwa communities.
He, however, strongly condemned the vandalism of public infrastructure, particularly power facilities, describing such acts as counterproductive to development.
"As a people, we condemn in the strongest possible terms every act of vandalism directed at public infrastructure. We cannot continue to demand development while allowing a few individuals to sabotage facilities meant to improve our lives," he said.
Asugwuni apologised for the setbacks caused by the destruction of electricity infrastructure and assured the governor that community leaders were intensifying local surveillance and security measures to prevent future occurrences.
He also appealed for the siting of additional higher institutions and critical infrastructure projects in Ndokwa Nation to accelerate economic growth and development.
Concluding his remarks, the NNU President-General formally endorsed the governor's leadership.
"On behalf of the National Executive Council of Ndokwa Neku Union and the entire Ndokwa ethnic nationality, we unanimously pass a vote of confidence in Your Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, in recognition of your exemplary, inclusive and development-oriented leadership," he declared.
Responding, Governor Oborevwori thanked the people of Ndokwa Nation for their support and confidence in his administration, assuring them that development would continue to reach every corner of the state.
The governor commended Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme for his dedication and contribution to governance, while also praising Chief Asugwuni for his commitment to the advancement of Ndokwa people.
Addressing concerns over electricity supply, Oborevwori acknowledged the hardship caused by prolonged outages and blamed repeated vandalism of critical infrastructure for delaying restoration efforts.
He disclosed that the state government had approved additional funding for electrification projects and assured that work would soon commence in affected communities. He added that discussions were ongoing with the Transmission Company of Nigeria and other stakeholders to address the challenges, while the proposed Okpai Step-Down Facility remained under active consideration.
The governor praised Ndokwa leaders for openly condemning vandalism, stressing that the destruction of public assets not only increases project costs but also slows development.
On requests for additional educational institutions, Oborevwori noted that the area already hosts a federal university and urged stakeholders to focus on strengthening existing institutions. He also assured the delegation that several road projects requested by the people had either been approved or were already under construction.
Speaking on the political outlook ahead of 2027, the governor said Delta State's prevailing political arrangement promotes continuity, stability, and inclusiveness, emphasising that his administration remains focused on delivering results rather than engaging in political grandstanding.
Reaffirming his commitment to equitable governance, Oborevwori declared:
"What I do for Ndokwa, I will do for Isoko, Ijaw, Urhobo, Anioma and every other part of the state. The evidence is visible across Delta State. Our projects are spread throughout the state. We are showing results, and we are showing our work."
The governor thanked the delegation for presenting a united front and assured them of continued collaboration with the government in advancing peace, development, and prosperity across Delta State.
