Edo Govt commends Dubri Oil Company for empowering host community youths

Edo State Commissioner for Mining, Oil and Gas, Hon. Ethan Uzamere has commended the management of Dubri Oil Company Limited, an exploration and production company for training and empowering youths in its area of operation in Edo state.

Hon. Uzamere made this commendation at the 8th batch of Dubri Oil Community Economic Empowerment Initiative which was held in Benin.

Hon. Uzamere called on the beneficiaries to collaborate with government through the ministry to enhance what they’ve been given as the problem that normally emanates from this kind of Empowerment is what they do from here.

He pointed out that this was not the first time communities are being empowered maintaining that government had to come in to enhance and ensure that the opportunities of these empowerments are turned into gains. 

He disclosed that government has put in place small and medium business schemes that can help them develop their businesses.

The Commissioner charged beneficiaries to further develop themselves and train others within and outside their communities.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the company, Alh. Momodu Alenoghena Abu said the empowerment scheme which was inaugurated in 2010 was set up to empower youths in its areas of operation with a view to support unskilled manpower and develop same.

He said that in the 8th batch of the scheme a total of 16 persons were drawn from their host and impact communities namely; Ughoton, Gelegele, Ikpako and Oduna wards who were trained in tailoring, hairdressing and vehicle mechanic will be given equipment and one year rent to enable them to start on their own.

Alh. Abu said that a total of 131 persons have so far benefited from the scheme since its inception expressing hope that beneficiaries will make good use of the equipment given to them by the company.

On his part, the Director of the Company, Mr Clement Seweje commended the communities for their cooperation noting that the empowerment initiative is a complete one which covers training, transportation allowance, equipment, rent and a generator set to address the issue of a power outage.

One of the beneficiaries, Osayiuwamen Uhunoma thanked the company for the empowerment initiative and promised to make judicious use of the items.
