Police Nab Suspected Kidnapper of Former Imo Traditional Rulers Chairman and FRSC Official

The Imo State Police Command has apprehended a suspected kidnapper believed to be a member of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a militant wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The arrest comes after a joint operation with the military at a suspected hideout of the outlawed IPOB/ESN in Ihite Owerre, Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.

The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, is believed to have played a role in the kidnapping of HRH Eze Samuel Ohiri, the former Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers in Imo State, and Mr. Sabinus Ugwuebu, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

During the raid, the security forces recovered a pump action gun, two double-barrel guns, two single-barrel guns, 54 rounds of live cartridges, military uniforms, six motorcycles, and a box containing locally made explosives.

In a statement, the Imo State Police Command spokesperson, Michael Abattam, said, “The arrested suspect, who is believed to be a member of the ESN terrorist group, may lead to where the kidnapped victims are.”

The police have initiated a concerted investigative effort to arrest the fleeing suspects and possibly rescue the kidnapped victims.

They will be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has reassured the public that the Command will continue to work closely with other security agencies to ensure the safety of the citizens and maintain law and order in the state.
