WAEC has dismissed claims about deploying security officers for next year's WASSCE exams. The council says a fraudulent letter circulating online is completely fake.
Moyosola Adesina, acting head of public affairs at WAEC in Lagos, signed the denial statement. She confirmed the council's attention was drawn to the forged document.
According to WAEC, the fake letter is dated May 27, 2026. It carries reference number L/SED/12/DIST/VOL. 4/460 and targets school principals and proprietors.
The forged document falsely claims WAEC has planned security deployments nationwide. It mentions the Nigeria Police Force and NSCDC would staff all exam centers from June 1, 2026.
It also features a forged signature attributed to S.D. Kum, Senior Deputy Registrar for Test Administration.
That signature never came from WAEC's offices.
In its statement, WAEC was emphatic about the letter's illegitimacy. "The said letter is fake," the council declared, adding it didn't originate from any WAEC department.
WAEC noted it hasn't issued directives about security deployments to examination centers. The council said the letter is the work of fraudsters and mischief-makers.
Officials warned these bad actors aim to create panic and disrupt exams. They're also trying to mislead school heads, parents, and candidates about security arrangements.
WAEC directed all school authorities to ignore the forged letter completely. Supervisors, invigilators, and the public should disregard its contents entirely.
The council urged candidates to remain focused on their preparations. WAEC wished all registered WASSCE candidates success in their upcoming examinations.
