The federal government has pulled back from its plan to raise registration charges for the 2027 West African Senior School Certificate Examination and the National Examinations Council senior secondary school tests.
The education ministry withdrew a June 18 letter outlining the fee changes to enable broader talks with interested parties before making a final choice, the ministry stated.
Officials had greenlit a flat N50,000 registration fee for both examinations starting in 2027, up from the current N27,500.
The proposal sparked fierce pushback from parents, education figures and political opponents who warned it would make exams less accessible for students from poorer backgrounds.
