Vinicius Jr backs Portugal to challenge for the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy. The Real Madrid winger believes Cristiano Ronaldo gives them a genuine chance.
The tournament kicks off next month across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Ronaldo recently won his first major honour with Al-Nassr, clinching the Saudi Pro League title ahead of Al-Hilal.
Portugal has never won a World Cup. This could be Ronaldo's last realistic shot at capturing the prize.
Vinicius told CazeTV that Ronaldo's presence alone makes Portugal dangerous. "Is Portugal one of the favourites?
Yes, because Cristiano is there, and that is important," he said.
But the Brazilian star highlighted other quality players in Portugal's squad. He named Vitinha and João Neves as standout talents of their generation.
Nuno Mendes, Rafael Leão, and João Félix also impressed him. Vinicius noted he shares a strong bond with these players.
Portugal crashed out of the 2022 World Cup in the quarter-finals. Morocco eliminated them in that tournament.
Group K awaits them in 2026. They'll face DR Congo, Uzbekistan, and Colombia in the opening phase.
