Vice President Shettima Addresses Relocation of Federal Departments, Calls for Unity

Vice President Kashim Shettima has spoken out against those opposing the federal government’s decision to relocate some departments and units of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos.

Shettima emphasized that the move is in the interest of the generality of Nigerians and is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda.’

During the 10th Annual Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture and Merit Awards in Maiduguri, Borno state, the Vice President, represented by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Dr. Hakeem Baba- Ahmed, highlighted the importance of good governance in tackling banditry, insurgency, and other social issues plaguing the nation.

He stressed that President Tinubu’s administration would not make any policy or decision that would be sectional or at the detriment of some geographical location of the country.

The event, which was attended by several prominent figures, including governors and representatives from various states, aimed to bring critical stakeholders together to collectively brainstorm and chart a new way forward in bringing lasting solutions to insecurity, poverty, corruption, and other social vices in the region and the nation as a whole.

Shettima commended members of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation for choosing Borno as the venue for the lecture and for selecting a theme that is apt and timely in addressing the numerous security challenges affecting the state, the North East sub-region, and the country in general.

He also emphasized the need for unity and cooperation among all levels of government in working towards sustainable development for the North and the country as a whole.

The Vice President’s statement has sparked a debate among the public, with some supporting the relocation and others expressing concerns about its impact on the nation’s capital and the overall functioning of the departments.

However, the Vice President’s assurance that the move is in the interest of the generality of Nigerians and the emphasis on good governance and unity in tackling insecurity and other issues have been widely welcomed.
