The President-General of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Olorogun Joe Omene has commended the Delta State government led by Dr  Ifeanyi Okowa for the proposed set up of state security outfit, Operation Delta Hawk’ to curb the rising cases of criminal herdsmen attacks, kidnapping, and others crime in the state.

Recall that the Delta State government had recently announced its plans to establish a security outfit to check rising insecurity in the state and boost economic activities.

Omene, while commending the Governor for the move, who accused the governor of being behind UPU crisis rocking the Urhobo apex body, applauded the efforts of the state government.

According to him, “the endless farmer/herdsmen crisis every day has become an embarrassment to the state government and residents of the state, that is why I am saying the governor has done well in establishing the community policing outfit which the state secretary announced last week, I think the decision is long overdue, so we must commend Governor Okowa for that decision, we hope this will help to curb the herders Fulani and farmers crisis”

He, however, said the decision by the governor was political and timely “Okowa knows what to do from the onset, that he waited till this time before establishing this new security outfit to counter Fulani clash with our farmers is political, he knows if he had done that during his election tribunal case, he would have lost at the tribunal, so he kept the best move for the last and I must also thank him for appointing the UPU Youth wing President, Efemena Umukoro, it shows he has an unbiased heart” he said.

On UPU decision to support NDDC Forensic Audit by the Interim Management Committee, IMC, Omene says he can’t be cowed from speaking the truth “because you won’t find me begging for contracts nor courting something from politicians at high places, I am a satisfied man, who is retiring and managing my business gracefully, I am not begging for anyone support and since Okowa’s ascension to that position, I don’t think I have had cause to go and beg him for anything,” he said.
