President Donald Trump said Sunday that America won't hurry into any agreement with Iran. He made the statement on Truth Social, his social media platform.
According to Trump, talks between the two nations are moving forward in a measured and positive way. He stressed that the US blockade on Iranian ports will stay in place until a final deal gets reached and signed.
The blockade was imposed on April 13 after Iran restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. This came in response to American and Israeli military operations that started on February 28.
"Both sides must take their time and get it right," Trump wrote on the platform. He used the post to criticize the 2015 nuclear agreement that Barack Obama had negotiated with Tehran.
Trump noted that US-Iran relations are becoming more professional and constructive. But he warned that Iran cannot be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.
"They must understand that they cannot develop or procure a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb," he added. The statement came amid growing debate over a possible Middle East peace deal.
