Toyin Abraham Extends Olive Branch to Funke Akindele, Ending Rivalry in Nollywood

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has reached out to her long-time colleague, Funke Akindele, with a heartfelt message on social media.

This gesture marks a positive shift in their relationship, which has been characterized by intense competition and rivalry over the years.

In a lengthy Instagram post on Sunday, Abraham acknowledged the competitive history between herself and Akindele, stating that their rivalry began in the Yoruba film industry and carried over to the Nigerian-English cinema when they transitioned to Nollywood.

She highlighted how the competition had caused division among their fans, pitting them against each other.

However, with time, maturity, and wisdom, Abraham has come to realize that they can compete without being negatively competitive.

She praised Akindele for her achievements and for setting an example of what is possible in the industry, emphasizing the importance of supporting each other even in the face of competition.

Abraham wrote, “In the English industry, Aunty Funke and I continued the rivalry sort of. It pitted our fans against each other.

We are two competitive Virgo women, we love to win and sometimes in that process, we splash dirt and mud.

But with time, age, and more wisdom, I have realized we can compete without being negatively competitive.”

She also commended Akindele for her box office success, which has inspired other women to dream and set higher goals for themselves.

Abraham expressed her admiration for Akindele’s work ethic and her ability to challenge others to strive for excellence.

In a gesture of goodwill and support, Abraham promised to post a tribute to Akindele in December, emphasizing the need for unity and collaboration within the industry.

She concluded her post with a prayer for Akindele’s continued success and well-being.

The end of the rivalry between Toyin Abraham and Funke Akindele marks a significant milestone in the Nigerian film industry, as it sets an example of collaboration and mutual support in the face of competition.

This shift in their relationship is a testament to the power of growth and maturity, and it serves as a reminder that even the fiercest of competitors can come together to create a stronger and more united industry.
