Tinubu’s New Year Message Empty, Deceitful – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday criticised President Bola Tinubu for his New Year address, saying it was a “bundle of lies, false claims, and empty promises.”.

In his nationwide broadcast to Nigerians on Monday, Tinubu asked the citizens to stay strong despite the hard times and challenges they face.

“Dear Compatriots, hear me out: the time may be hard and harsh, but our spirit must stay unbroken because hard times don’t last. We are built for this moment—never to shrink, never to stumble,” President Tinubu said.

Responding in a statement on Monday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said Tinubu’s speech was “unpresidential, unimpressive, and a waste of precious time as it did not address any of the serious issues facing the nation.”.

“More upsetting is that President Tinubu had no words in his New Year address for the Christmas Eve genocidal killing of over 200 Nigerians by terrorists in Plateau State and the murder of over 5000 citizens in Plateau and other states of the federation under his watch since May 29, 2023,” the statement reads.

Pointing out that Nigerians were “disappointed,” the PDP spokesman said the president “used rhetoric and failed to address the serious issues of insecurity, dilapidated infrastructure, dormant” manufacturing and productive sectors, inflation rate, naira devaluation, unemployment, and poverty” in the country.

He said Tinubu’s statement that his actions and policies are in the interest of the nation further confirmed that this administration is allegedly forcing Nigerians to suffer as a way to make them submit to totalitarianism.

“President Tinubu should have used the opportunity presented by the New Year to apologise to Nigerians and outline steps to address our national problems, including those responsible for the departure of multinational manufacturing companies and other businesses from our country.

“What Nigerians demand of President Tinubu is to provide a detailed account of our nation’s earnings, including the proceeds from the removal of subsidies on petroleum products, especially in the face of allegations that the earnings are being syphoned into the private pockets of APC leaders and their cronies.

“The National Assembly is urged to step up and perform its constitutional role of oversight to hold the Executive Arm accountable as the keeper of the nation’s purse,” Ologunagba said.
