President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of a new board and management team for the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) for a four-year term. The president made the announcement in a statement issued by his media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, on Friday.
According to the statement, the president appointed Engr. Imam Ibrahim Kashim Imam as the chairman of the FERMA board and Engr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi as the managing director of FERMA. The statement also listed the names of other members of the board and management team, who represent various sectors and regions of the country.
The president said he expects the new appointees to deliver “integrous and competent service delivery”, given the central role that FERMA plays in maintaining and improving the federal road infrastructure nationwide. He also urged them to work in synergy with other relevant agencies and stakeholders to ensure the smooth and safe movement of people and goods across the country.
FERMA is an agency established by an act of parliament in 2002 with the mandate to monitor and maintain all federal roads in Nigeria. The agency has been facing challenges such as inadequate funding, poor equipment, and a lack of skilled personnel. The president’s appointment of a new board and management team is seen as a step to revamp and reposition FERMA for better performance.
