Tinubu Administration Invests ₦40 Billion to Provide Meters Across Nigeria

The Tinubu administration has recently announced a significant investment of ₦40 billion to provide meters in army barracks across Nigeria as part of their mass metering project.

This initiative aims to eliminate estimated billing and energy theft, ensuring accurate and fair billing for the military personnel.

During the flag off of the metering exercise at the Headquarters of the 9th Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ikeja Military Cantonment, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, stated that the project would be carried out in phases, with the Ikeja cantonment being the first phase.

The smart meters being installed are tamper-proof, allowing for an accurate record of energy consumption and eliminating the possibility of energy theft.

Additionally, the project will help prioritize electricity supply to the armed forces, ensuring that they do not suffer from inadequate power supply.

The minister also mentioned that the government plans to build off-grid solar power sources for military barracks in remote areas without grid supply. This will ensure a more reliable and sustainable energy supply for the military formations.

The metering project will be extended to all military formations in the country, with the objective of providing 24-hour power supply to the barracks.

The second phase of the project will begin in Abuja and Enugu simultaneously, with military formations across 11 DisCos set to benefit from the exercise.

This initiative by the Tinubu administration is a significant step towards improving the quality of life for the military personnel and ensuring that they are not subjected to the inconvenience of estimated billing and erratic power supply.
