Taraba Farmers Urged to Repay Fertilizer Subsidy Loans or Face Legal Action

The Taraba State chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has recently called on its members to repay their fertilizer subsidy loans from last year in a timely manner.

The chairperson of the association in the state, Hajiya Amina Laraba Wambai, emphasized the importance of honoring the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the association’s zonal coordinator.

Wambai stressed that beneficiaries must settle their 50% balance of the fertilizer loan by December 2024 to avoid potential legal repercussions from suppliers.

She acknowledged the challenges faced by farmers during the previous rainy season due to insecurity, but she also highlighted the necessity of loan repayment to unlock future opportunities for the farming community.

The association aims to find ways to ensure that all beneficiaries can repay their loans and, in turn, attract more opportunities for the upcoming rainy season.

Wambai also reminded farmers of their financial obligations towards suppliers and the importance of maintaining a conducive business environment for continued support from various stakeholders.

Despite the adverse impact of insecurity and other challenges on farming activities in the state, some farmers have appealed to the organization to advocate for more time from the contractor to address prevailing issues.

Regardless, the Taraba farmers are urged to repay their fertilizer subsidy loans or face potential legal action.
