The decision was made on January 26, 2024, and has garnered considerable attention on social media platforms and news outlets.

Farouk Lawan was convicted and sentenced to prison in 2021 for accepting a $500,000 bribe from businessman Femi Otedola, Chairman of Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd.

The bribe was given during Lawan’s tenure as the Chairman of the House’s -hoc committee investigating the fuel subsidy fraud in 2012.
