A Federal High Court judge in Abuja ordered Omoyele Sowore remanded in custody on Monday. Justice Mohammed Umar issued the directive at a brief hearing in the nation's capital.

Sowore, who ran as the African Action Congress presidential candidate, will remain at Kuje Correctional Centre. He awaits a hearing on his motion to overturn the revocation of his bail.

Justice Umar rejected Sowore's bid to have him removed from the case. The defendant's legal team had claimed the judge showed bias against him.

Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, Sowore's newly retained lawyer, filed the stay motion. He'll argue the case on June 24, when the court reconvenes.

Days earlier, on June 16, the same judge had revoked Sowore's bail. According to the court, he failed to show up for his trial.

A bench warrant for his arrest followed immediately after. Akinkolu Kehinde, SAN, representing the Department of State Services, had requested both actions.

Authorities allege Sowore posted inflammatory remarks about President Bola Tinubu online. He's accused of calling the president "a criminal" on X and Facebook.

The DSS is handling the prosecution in this case. His legal team now fights to restore his freedom pending trial.
