Troops from the 1 Brigade killed two suspected terrorists and seized two motorcycles during a fighting patrol in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State on July 10, 2026. Zagazola Makama, a security analyst tracking insurgency across the Lake Chad region, disclosed the operation in a report.
The soldiers conducted the patrol around 2:00pm in Tungar Magaji and Gidan Dawa villages as part of wider military operations targeting militant groups in the state. They encountered the suspects and opened fire, killing two during the exchange.
"The troops engaged the suspects in a gun battle, neutralising two of them during the encounter," according to the report. The soldiers recovered the two motorcycles, which they believed the militants had been using.
Makama noted the operation forms part of sustained military efforts to limit how suspected terrorist groups move across Zamfara State. The Nigerian Army has intensified operations in the region to combat armed gangs and militants who've destabilised communities.
