Solo Driver Pelumi Nubi Completes London to Lagos Road Trip, Aims to Inspire Young Women

Pelumi Nubi, a 28-year-old travel content creator, has successfully completed her solo drive from London to Lagos in a Peugeot 107, arriving to a warm reception at the Nigeria-Benin Republic border.

The journey, which took 68 days, aimed to shine a spotlight on West Africa for a global audience and inspire young women to take on challenging endeavors.

Nubi expressed her excitement and gratitude for the overwhelming reception upon her arrival in Lagos.

She shared her vision to connect her two homes – Lagos, where she was born, and London, where she grew up – and to raise awareness about West Africa through her journey.

The solo driver highlighted the challenges she faced during the trip, including sleeping by the roadside in her small car and navigating through various terrains.

Despite the difficulties, Nubi was motivated by the support and encouragement from her online community, which grew from 10,000 to more than 200,000 followers during her journey.

Nubi’s parents, who were present at her homecoming, expressed their relief and gratitude to the Almighty for their daughter’s safe return.

They shared their concerns and fears throughout the two-month journey but were ultimately proud of Nubi’s achievement.

The Lagos State government representatives, including Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, and Special Adviser, Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe, welcomed Nubi at the Nigeria-Benin Republic border.

They praised her for her determination and courage, noting that her journey would inspire other young women to pursue their dreams and showcase the beauty of the African continent.

As Nubi reflects on her journey and the impact it has had on her and others, she hopes to continue raising awareness and inspiring others to step out of their comfort zones and challenge themselves.
