Controversial street-hop singer, Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, after failing to meet the stringent bail conditions set by an Upper Area Court.

Portable was arraigned on Monday on charges of defamation of character, filed by veteran Fuji musician Okunola Saheed, popularly known as Saheed Osupa.

The court granted Portable bail at ₦1 million, with two sureties in like sum. However, the conditions required one surety to be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), and the other a property owner within a Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin, backed by a valid Certificate of Occupancy — conditions the singer could not immediately fulfill.

The case, documented under FIR 117(1) CPC, followed a petition filed by Osupa on March 21, 2025. The petition alleged that Portable, during a live Instagram broadcast, defamed the Fuji star by accusing him of jealousy and sabotaging his music career.

In the video, Portable was quoted as saying:

“This man dey try bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa carry tortoise for stomach. When Apple Music and Spotify wan drop money for me, na him remove my song from the platform, make I no see money.”

The police, in a statement by spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that the petition accused Portable of several offences including criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

Following a warrant issued by a Magistrate Court in Ilorin, Portable was arrested on April 13, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and immediately transferred to Ilorin for investigation.

According to ASP Adeniyi James, the Investigating Police Officer, the charges were filed based on directives from police authorities.
