Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Ned Nwoko, has commiserated with the family of the late Joshua Opia of Ndokwa West Local Government Area, describing his death as a painful loss to both his family and the political community.

Opia, a politician and businessman, died at the age of 48. He was a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and served as Director of Security Services in Senator Nwoko’s 2023 senatorial campaign organisation before he was appointed Executive Assistant to the Senator on Security and Niger Delta Affairs (NDDC).

Speaking during a condolence visit to the Opia family shortly after his burial in Kwale, Senator Nwoko—represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Michael Nwoko—described the deceased as “a dedicated, focused, resourceful and disciplined young man.”

The senator said Opia’s death was a profound personal loss, noting that he “served with uncommon dedication and unwavering loyalty and discharged his responsibilities with a high sense of purpose and decorum.”

He further described the late Opia as a committed advocate of peace, security and development, highlighting his contributions to the Niger Delta struggle for equity and inclusion in the oil-producing but long-marginalised region.

Senator Nwoko assured the family of his continued support, particularly the widow, Mrs. Ozioma Opia, and the children, while praying for the peaceful repose of Opia’s soul and for God’s strength to sustain the family through the period of grief.

The burial ceremony in Kwale attracted top government officials and political leaders, including the Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme; Executive Chairman of Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Chief Obi Nzete; APC Chairman, Ndokwa West LGA, Hon. Greg Onah; former member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Azuka Azaka; Secretary, First Phase Presidential Amnesty Programme, Hon. Pastor Nature Kieghe; and former Chairman of Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, Abia State, Hon. Sir Ugoala, among others.

Late Joshua Opia, a grassroots politician, security expert, and philanthropist, also served as Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters to the Governor of Delta State.
