Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology has scrapped a planned field trip to New Bussa in Niger State. Safety worries from parents and community members forced the decision.
Vice-Chancellor Musa Tukur Yakasai cancelled the excursion after examining security reports for the area. Level 400 Fisheries students were scheduled to conduct mandatory fieldwork there.
Deputy Registrar Abdullahi Datti Abdullahi released a statement on the cancellation. "When the idea of going to New Bussa came up, the Vice Chancellor, who was already aware of the security situation, had long rejected the trip," he said.
Officials directed the Fisheries Department to identify a more secure location instead. Tiga Dam in Kano now hosts the mandatory exercise for students.
University leadership stressed student protection as their primary concern. "The university never jokes with students' safety and welfare, both within and outside the campus," Abdullahi noted.
He further assured the public about the institution's commitment to security. "There is no plan to take our students to New Bussa or any other unsecured area," the official added.
Parents had raised alarm about the originally planned Niger State visit. ADUSTECH's move comes as families demand safer alternatives for student activities.
