Nigeria's football governing body has reached out to Rivers United following a bus mishap involving the club's traveling party. The accident happened as players and officials headed to Anambra State for a cup fixture.
A vehicle carrying the Port Harcourt-based team veered off course along Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on Wednesday. Several occupants sustained minor injuries during the incident.
The squad was traveling to face Nasarawa United in a 2026 President's Federation Cup Round of 16 match scheduled for Awka. Kickoff is set for 4pm on the day of the clash.
NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi issued a statement expressing the federation's concern. "We're grateful no lives were lost," Sanusi noted, adding that the NFF stands with those who suffered injuries.
He wished the affected players and staff a speedy recovery. Both teams remain committed to fulfilling the fixture despite the unfortunate occurrence.
Winners of the Nasarawa United encounter will advance to the quarter-finals. Rivers United's determination to compete hasn't wavered following the roadside accident.
