Real Madrid have sealed a deal worth £51.8 million to sign Marc Cucurella from Chelsea. The Spain defender will join the Spanish club after the FIFA 2026 World Cup concludes.

Cucurella is currently competing for Spain in the tournament being held across the United States, Canada and Mexico. All parties have agreed to the permanent transfer, sources confirmed.

The base fee stands at £47.5 million. Performance-related bonuses could add another £4.3 million to the package.

At 27, the left-back represents another major signing in Madrid's rebuilding efforts. Club president Florentino Perez, recently re-elected, appointed Jose Mourinho as manager to oversee the project.

Madrid are also chasing Manchester City's Bernardo Silva and Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries. Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate is expected to arrive at the Bernabéu too.

Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton in 2022 for £63 million. He's long been wanted back in Spain, his native country.

The defender came through Barcelona's renowned La Masia academy. Both Atlético Madrid and Barcelona had previously shown interest in signing him.

His time at Stamford Bridge became troubled following public criticism of Chelsea's hierarchy. He aired his grievances during the March international break after Enzo Maresca departed mid-season.

Cucurella struggled to settle under Liam Rosenior, Maresca's replacement. Spanish-speaking players in the squad grew increasingly frustrated with the club's direction.

Chelsea decided to sell rather than risk his value dropping further. Just two years remain on his current contract with the Blues.
