Jamie Carragher has weighed in on PSG's Champions League victory over Arsenal on Saturday. The Liverpool icon believes Arsenal's attacking weakness proved costly in the final.
Kai Havertz put Arsenal ahead with a brilliant first-half goal. PSG equalized through Ousmane Dembele's penalty kick in the second period.
A penalty shootout decided the match. Eberechi Eze and Gabriel both missed from the spot for Arsenal, handing PSG the trophy.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Carragher pinpointed Arsenal's attacking quality as the decisive factor. He noted that Mikel Arteta's team simply lacks the firepower needed to overcome elite opposition.
"That's the constant criticism of Arteta's Arsenal," Carragher told reporters. According to him, the way Arsenal played was perhaps their only chance against PSG.
He acknowledged PSG weren't particularly impressive in the opening half. "They were there for the taking," he said.
But Carragher stressed Arsenal can't capitalize on such opportunities. He's maintained throughout the season that their attacking options remain inadequate.
Arsenal's defense remains world-class, the former defender noted. Their centre-backs delivered outstanding performances Saturday night.
Still, being English champions isn't enough without superior attacking talent. Carragher believes Arsenal urgently need to strengthen their forward line.
