President Tinubu Requests Senate Confirmation for Five CBN Board Directors

President Bola Tinubu has formally submitted a list of nominees to the Senate for the screening and confirmation of individuals proposed as directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) board.

This announcement came during Tuesday’s plenary session, where a letter from President Tinubu to Senate President Godswill Akpabio was read aloud.

The letter stated, “In compliance with the provisions of Section 6, subsection 1b and section 10 subsection 1 and 2 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Establishment Act, 2007, I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointments of the underlisted five persons as directors of the board of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN): Robert Agbide, Ado Wanga, Murtala Sagaley, Urom Eke, and Olayinka Aliyu.”

In response to President Tinubu’s request, Senate President Akpabio acknowledged the importance of the nominations and promptly referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions. Akpabio stated, “The committee is tasked with reporting back to plenary within four weeks.”

This move by President Tinubu signifies his commitment to ensuring the effective governance of Nigeria’s financial regulatory body.

The Senate’s swift action in referring the matter to the appropriate committee underscores their dedication to thorough legislative scrutiny and due diligence in vetting the nominees before their formal confirmation.
