The presidency confirmed on Saturday that pupils and teachers freed from Oriire in Ogbomoso are receiving medical care. Bayo Onanuga, the president's special adviser on information and strategy, told reporters the rescued victims would be transferred to Governor Seyi Makinde once examinations conclude.

"The children are still undergoing medical examination. They will thereafter be handed over to Oyo governor Makinde," Onanuga said.

President Bola Tinubu expressed deep satisfaction with the successful operation by security personnel. The rescue, which spanned 56 days, ended without casualties among the captives, he noted.

Tinubu praised the military, the DSS and police for their relentless work to free the abducted children and their teachers. He also highlighted that security forces arrested eight suspects and eliminated others involved in the kidnapping.

The president acknowledged the pain experienced by the victims, educators, families and the country throughout the ordeal. He pledged his administration would pursue justice for those affected.

Tinubu singled out the Oyo State Government for its cooperation with federal authorities during rescue operations. He urged the state to strengthen security measures at educational institutions statewide.

"I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Orire, Ogbomoso in Oyo State today after a military, police and intelligence-driven operation that neutralised some of the terrorists that perpetrated the evil act and the arrest of eight of them," Tinubu said.

He added: "This successful military operation has ended the siege and standoff of over 50 days and has brought relief to the entire nation and the affected families in particular."

The president extended gratitude to armed forces personnel, intelligence operatives and police officers involved in the rescue. He promised accountability for those responsible, particularly regarding the killing of one victim.

"My government will get justice for these children and their teachers and for the family of Mr Oyedokun, who the terrorists gruesomely murdered," Tinubu said.

He commended Makinde's administration: "I must commend the government of Oyo State for working cooperatively with us in bringing this unfortunate incident to a successful end."
