The government’s mouthpiece, Bayo Onanuga, slammed the nationwide strike of the workers’ unions as “unjustified”, claiming it was a ploy to coerce the government.
The president’s adviser on media and tactics, in a statement, expressed shock that the strike went ahead despite a court order to halt it.
“This choice by the NLC and TUC is nothing but a show of pride by the NLC leadership,” the statement said.
“We are baffled by the reason why the NLC and TUC decided to inflict pain on a whole country of over 200 million people over a personal issue involving the NLC President, Mr. Joe Ajaero, whose blunder led to an attack on him in Owerri while he was scheming to stir up the workers in Imo State into a pointless strike.
