Powerful Individuals Sabotaging Security Efforts in Anambra State: CP Adeoye

Anambra State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has expressed concern over the sabotage of security efforts by powerful individuals in the state.
This revelation came during his visit to the Anambra NUJ Press Centre in Awka for the April Congress of the union.
Represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Akin Fakorede, Adeoye highlighted the challenges faced by the state’s law enforcement in combating criminal activities, particularly cult-related killings and attacks on police stations.
According to Adeoye, the recent surge in cult-related violence in Awka is partly due to the release of arrested cultists facilitated by influential locals.
These individuals have been lobbying the judiciary to secure the release of suspects remanded in prison custody, which has led to the resurgence of cult activities and violence in the state.
The commissioner also pointed out the recovery of weapons from suspected cultists, including an AK-47 in Awada and three Beretta pistols in Ogidi and Ekwulobia within a short period.
He emphasized that if these weapons had not been recovered, the casualty levels during recent cult clashes would have been significantly higher.
Adeoye expressed his determination to tackle the issue head-on, stating that the police would not relent in their efforts to combat criminal elements in the state.
He warned that anyone found subverting justice or due process to protect cultists or criminals would face consequences, regardless of their position in the judiciary or civil society.
This situation underscores the complex challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining security and order in the face of powerful forces that seek to undermine their efforts.
It also highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, the judiciary, and the community to ensure that justice is served and the safety of the public is prioritized.
