Politics is about service to the people says Utomi

A Professor of Developmental Economy, Prof. Pat Utomi has said that political process should be about rendering service to the people, rather than a means of primitive accumulation of wealth.

Utomi, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressive People, APC, in Delta state, while speaking to journalists at the retreat held at Abraka, stated that it is high time people recognizes that political process is about service and not about them.

He said, “politics is about sacrificial giving of oneself for the common good of all, individual who sacrifices for the good of the community, gets even more, you know the African philosophy, ‘I am because we are’ I think that we must think first of the common good of all and within that, we would find the advance of ourselves interest.”

He further revealed that he is organizing wellness programme, which will improve the well being of the people to make them productive.

He added that if elected his government will create commissioners for cash transfer directly to women, especially to mothers, “they will get about 7500 naira every month by every needy mothers to enable them push the quality of life of their families.

“We have provided interest free loan to women, we have also provided training programs where people come and to learn specific skills, like soap making and so on, we have provided a program of wellbeing, with resource persons coming all the way from Indian to show them how wellness program can make them be better off in health and entrepreneurial initiatives.

“Again, we have programme for the youths, in the last one year we have had over 400 young people we put through into nearly one year training in skills, entrepreneurship and leadership, we have also tried ways to provide them with support they use to start businesses. Because the dignity of a human person depends on how they are able to deploy their talents for income that will make them better people in their communities.” He added.
