Police Arrest Three Suspects for Cultism at Tai Solarin University of Education

At Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ogun State, the local police have arrested two students and one other person on suspicion of cultism.

The suspects were identified as Adekoya Boluwatife Temilade, a 200-level student of the Political Science Department; Adio Oluwafemi Ifeoluwapo, a 300-level level student of Technical Education; and Agboluaje (a non-student).

The arrests were made following a joint operation by the police and the university’s internal security personnel in preparation for the upcoming Students’ Union Government elections scheduled for Thursday.

The suspects were reportedly intercepted based on intelligence suggesting their involvement in cult activities and an attempt to disrupt the election.

During the arrest, the police found a locally cut-to-size pistol gun loaded with one live cartridge on Adekoya Boluwatife, while local concoctions suspected to be criminal charms were found on Adio Oluwafemi.

The suspects have been detained for further investigation.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of cultism in Nigerian higher education institutions, and the efforts made by the local authorities to curb such activities.

Cultism has been a persistent problem in Nigeria’s educational system, often resulting in violence, intimidation, and disruption of academic activities.

The Tai Solarin University of Education, as well as other institutions in the country, must continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of their students and staff.

It is also crucial for the university to implement preventive measures to discourage students from engaging in cult-related activities and promote a healthy and secure academic environment.

The recent arrests of the three suspects at TASUED serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation between educational institutions and law enforcement in tackling the issue of cultism in Nigeria.

It is crucial for all stakeholders to work together to create a safe and conducive environment for learning and personal growth.
