Police in Nasarawa state have arrested Musbawu Amodu, 30, over the death of his 20-year-old wife in Angwan Yahaya, Agyaragu. The woman died on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m. following what authorities describe as a violent assault.

A report reached the Agyaragu Police Division accusing the man of attacking his spouse during their six-year marriage. Officers moved quickly to the scene and transported the victim to the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia for examination.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to the assault, according to the police statement issued by spokesperson Superintendent of Police Rahman Nansel. He told investigators that anger drove his actions after the woman refused to cook following an argument between them.

The confrontation turned physical and ultimately proved fatal, he confessed. He expressed regret over what happened, the police said.

The woman leaves behind two children from the marriage. Police have since handed the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for deeper inquiry.

Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed ordered the transfer and pledged that justice would follow once investigations conclude. He vowed the suspect would face court charges.

Mohammed strongly denounced domestic violence in all its forms, calling the incident both tragic and preventable. He called on couples and families to resolve disagreements through conversation and patience rather than force.

"No misunderstanding warrants taking someone's life," he stressed. He urged people to pursue only lawful approaches when dealing with disputes.

The police command told residents that Agyaragu and surrounding areas remain calm and stable. Officers continue to keep watch on the situation, officials added.
