The Yobe State Police Command arrested 14 suspected drug dealers following a raid on criminal hideouts in Jakusko Local Government Area. Officers recovered over 300 sachets and packages of illicit drugs including Tramadol, Vega tablets, and Indian hemp from the suspects during the operation.
The coordinated enforcement action targeted drug joints at Buduwa Market as part of efforts to dismantle the narcotics trade across the state. SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the police public relations officer, confirmed the arrests in a statement.
Those arrested are Hamisu Umar, 20; Usman Wakili, 25; Aliyu Mohammed, 20; Hassan Ali, 35; Dudduwa Dorsha, 27; Adamu Hussaini, 27; Sale Adamu, 27; Adamu Umaru, 25; Babaru Hassan, 28; Dangi Maikudi, 22; Hassan Audu, 29; Abubakar Usman, 29; Ahmadu Waziri, 23; and Daudu Yusuf, 20. All were caught while allegedly selling, consuming and abusing the drugs.
The command said investigators are making progress on the case and the suspects are cooperating with authorities. Officers are using information from the detainees to track down other members of the trafficking network.
The suspects will face charges in court once investigations conclude, the police said. Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin issued directives to all area commanders and divisional officers to step up raids on known criminal hideouts and dangerous zones statewide.
CP Jibrin restated the command's zero-tolerance approach to drug trafficking and substance abuse. He warned that the drug problem fuels violent crime and other serious offences throughout the state.
