Police in Oyo State have arrested four suspects linked to violent clashes that erupted in parts of Ibadan on Wednesday. The command's public relations officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrests in a statement released to reporters on Thursday.

Tension gripped several Ibadan neighbourhoods after a Yoruba man was allegedly killed during a clash with individuals believed to be Hausa in the Ojoo area. The killing sparked widespread unrest across the city.

At least one other person lost their life in the violence that followed, according to reports gathered by this newspaper. The exact circumstances remain unclear as investigations continue.

All four suspects are in police custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ayanlade said. The department has launched a comprehensive investigation into the killings, the mob action, and related criminal activities.

Ayanlade explained that detectives are working to establish the full details of what sparked the initial confrontation. He said the investigation would also look into allegations of attempted robbery connected to the incident.

The arrests came swiftly as police moved to restore calm in the affected areas. Authorities are determined to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the state capital.
