Founder and General Overseer of International Christian Centre for the Mission (aka Home for the Needy) in Uhogua, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, Pastor Solomon Folorunsho, has been bestowed with the Kwame Nkrumah Servant Leadership Award as an Icon of Nation Building and Societal Transformation in Nigeria.

The award was presented to the clergy, whose facility also doubles as the Internally Displaced Persons camp, by the West African Students Union Parliament (WASUP) last weekend.

In the citation of Pastor Solomon read on the epoch occasion, WASUP described him as “a thorough bred manager of men and resources, an administrator/technocrat with unquantifiable wealth of experience in teaching, management and leadership best practices, a patriotic Nigerian, a distinguished personality, a benevolent Nigerian who provides an avenue for tutelage of young African youths irrespective of where they come from, the faith they profess or their social status.

“He is indeed a man of integrity and an outstanding nation builder par excellence.”

Going further, the WASUP stated that Pastor Solomon has “proven himself as a man of charisma who can stick out his neck for the course he believes in.”

It enthused that Pastor Solomon is a man of courage who has zero tolerance for ineffectiveness, a noble champion and vanguard for an enhanced societal system with the youth as an integral part of it, adding “no wonder he is used by God to transform lives through his teachings and Home for the Needy where the lives of many has been saved and given a meaning.”

According to WASUP, “Pastor Folorunsho is a man who has touched many lives with his philanthropic nature not just in his community or Edo State but in Nigeria at large as he has successfully employed, trained and graduated a lot of youths into the society thereby making them a better people for a better Nigeria and a much better Africa at large.

“No wonder Pastor Folorunsho is heavily loved by everybody especially for his contribution to the lives of those who have no one to cater for them, homeless, displaced and confused about life.

“He takes it upon himself not to only provide home for the homeless and also provide education and good health for them.”

In his response, Pastor Folorunsho said: “We never thought that what we were doing is so special. Neither was it done to attract anyone’s attention.

“So many times people have called me that they want to give me award but I have always avoided it because I felt that it was not necessary.

“I felt that the best award would be to make you(IDPs) to be what God wants you to be. And also to wait for God to reward us.

“This very one I accept it because of you. It is a great encouragement to see that what we are doing in a very quiet environment is being noticed by people who we don’t know. So this award is yours.”

Pastor Folorunsho was thereafter decorated with a medal and given an award plaque by the members of the delegation of WASUP led by Igwe Ikechukwu Franklyn (Nigeria Representative), Shantal Rosebell (of University of Douala and representative of Cameroon) and King Joseph of Kogi State University.
