Wada, Okagbare invents Power Bank, Mini Inverter

Two young secondary school leavers, Daniel Wada and Japheth Okagbare, have joined the league of inventors by developing a practical and functional household multifunctional renewable energy gadget, DanJAP Power Bank and a Mini Inverter System.

Speaking at a media briefing to introduce the new invention, the duo said that they were inspired to produce the gadget, a power bank with triple phone charging outlets and luminous light, “to provide an addition to the efforts to shift to solar and clean energy solutions.”

While noting that the torchlights in the market can not stand the test of time because of the type of batteries used to make them stressed that the invention is also to stop the dependence on candles and kerosene lamps.

They said the Mini Inverter which is noiseless and devoid of dangerous emissions will reduce dependence on generators which has caused a lot of deaths in the country.

Going further, the inventors promised that the product will roll out in the first quarter of January 2020 maintaining that they were able to get to this stage due to the funding they got from ERA.

While appealing to well meaning Nigerians, philanthropists and entrepreneurs to come to their aid financially they added that they have other ideas which they have not been able to push out because they are constrained financial constra

In his speech at the occasion, Executive Director, Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria(ERA/FoEN), Godwin Uyi Ojo, stated that his organisation and its partners have for the past five years engaged the young people by developing entrepreneurial skills as a response to environmental degradation, climate change and the problem of young people unemployment.

According to him, “this initiative tagged ‘from extraction to education’ is building broad based knowledge on climate change and a switch from fossil fuel dependence to renewable energy sources.

“It is empowering young persons and has currently reached a target of about 5,000 youths with the target to reach out to over 10,000 youths in the next three years by 2022. It is to empower them with the basic skills for energy transition to alternative energy in solar systems development and social marketing to address carbon emission reduction, provide access to lighting and create green jobs.”

Ojo reiterated that his organisation is “engaging the youths systematically to advance young people’s participation in their economic empowerment, amongst others thereby providing support and space for young innovators to flourish as alternative to oil and gas sector dependence and become job creators in the renewable energy sector to address the issues of environmental degradation and poverty.”

He stated that the inventors of DanJap Power Bank are faced with routine challenges of young innovators and entrepreneurs with scarce resources, adding that “they have contributed in their own special way to reducing carbon emissions from fossil based conventional lighting system to address the problem of darkness due to frequent power outage in Nigeria.”
