Ozoro Poly students protest ban on students driving cars, Okadas into school

By Ovedhe Hezekiah,

Thousand of students of Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro earlier today barricaded the Polytechnic gate protesting over the restriction of students private motorcycles, cars and visitors cars from entering into the premises of the Polytechnic by the management of the institution.

The protest which was led by the Student Union Government of the Polytechnic left commuters passing through the ever busy Ughelli/Asaba express way stranded and also grounded educational activities for hours with students carrying placards that bear the following inscription; “Allow students vehicles, motorcycles and visitors cars into the Polytechnic”, “stop subjecting us to hardship”, among others.

A source from the Polytechnic Student Union Government who pleaded anonymous, said ” The Management policy restricting students and visitors motorcycles and cars from gaining access to the campus, subjecting the students and visitors to the hard labour of trekking under sun and rain almost two kilometers before getting to their lectures hall is barbaric and must stop.”

The source also added that, “The Student Union Government and some critical stakeholders has exhausted all means of dialogues with the Management of the Polytechnic, hence the protest.

The campus gate must open to all visitors and students motorcycles and cars or himself and all the lecturer should also pack aside the campus.”

As at the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Polytechnic Public Relation Officer, Mr Boniface Oganrayan and the Dean Student Affairs, Comrade Thomas Ojuye proof abortive as calls put across to their phone lines were not taken.
