The Chairman of the Peter Oyemike Foundation (POF), Christopher Oyemike, has urged Deltans to rally behind the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, stating that the governor has exceeded public expectations through the prudent management of the state’s resources.
Oyemike made the call on Friday while distributing clothes to over 1,500 women—mostly widows—in Abbi, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State. He said the gesture was part of the Foundation’s annual Christmas outreach, noting that this year’s edition had recorded an increase in beneficiaries.
“This is our annual way of celebrating Christmas with widows and women. This year, we have more beneficiaries,” Oyemike said. He added: “Our dear mothers, as we celebrate Christmas, remember our Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and our Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D., in your prayers. They have done very well in the delivery of democratic dividends.”
Highlighting ongoing development in Abbi, he said: “We are aware of the Widows Empowerment programme of our Governor, and here in Abbi, we can see the physical projects that have been executed and are being executed; we have never seen such a thing in the past, and this calls for our full support for the Governor.”
Oyemike also linked the outreach to a personal milestone. “This year’s donation of clothes to widows coincides with my 50th birthday anniversary celebration, so, let us always encourage our children to do the right things,” he said, urging continued prayers and support for the governor and his deputy.
Some beneficiaries, including Mrs. J.U. Oshionwu, Mrs. Patience Eke and Mrs. Obije, thanked Oyemike for “putting smiles on the faces of widows” through the provision of clothes and cash gifts.
The APC Chairman in Ward 9, Abbi, Monday Dumbi, described the outreach as “unique,” adding: “We know that this is not political because it is an annual event; however, the fact that Chief Oyemike is a member of our party, the All Progressives Congress, has made it such that this initiative is endearing more people to our party.”
Dignitaries at the event included Eugene Okolocha, Fidelis Egugbo, the Onotu Uku of Echalla-Abbi, Chief Peter Nwosa, Chief Mathew Udi, Ogbuefi Lucky Okuji, Hon. Mathew Ochonogor, Chief Felix Gbagi and Chief Kuti Dafe, among others.
