Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC has won Ayodele Fayose's polling unit. He secured 448 votes in Saturday's governorship election.
The victory came at Polling Unit 001, St. David's Primary School in Afao-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area.
This is Fayose's hometown and a stronghold for the former governor.
Oyebanji dominated the ballot with 448 of 493 valid votes cast. His closest challenger, ADC's Dare Bejide, gathered only 37 votes.
PDP candidate Wole Oluyede came third with just four votes. The ADP also received four votes in the unit.
According to INEC Form EC8A, 538 voters were accredited out of 931 registered voters. Seven ballots were rejected during the process.
The result carries weight given Fayose's influence in Ekiti politics. He remains one of the state's most prominent political figures.
Polling officials and party agents signed off on the results. Collation of votes continued across the state as counting progressed.
Oyebanji's win in this unit signals early momentum in his re-election bid. Results from other polling units were still being compiled.
