Opposition candidates urge Uzodimma to drop second term ambition

Ahead of the November 11 governorship election in Imo State, some opposition candidates have called on Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to drop his second term or reelection ambition.

The candidates from Owerri Zone Senatorial District said Uzodimma’s second term bid was unjust, as his Orlu Zone Senatorial District had dominated the state’s leadership for 20 of the 24 years of democratic rule since 1999.

The opposition candidates who made the call were Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tony Ejiogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Kemdi Opara of the Young Progressives Congress (YPC), and Kachi Nwoga of the Action Democratic Party (ADP).

On the 5th anniversary of the Egbu Declaration, a document that calls for power sharing among the three senatorial zones of Orlu, Owerri, and Okigwe, they stated their stance.

The candidates said they were committed to upholding the Imo Charter of Equity, a political agreement that was signed by prominent leaders of the state in 1998 to ensure justice and fairness in the distribution of political offices.
